The Animal Kingdom

Today, September 22nd, is the first day of autumn here in the Northern Hemisphere, and with that comes cooler weather in many places, and a good time to think about the animals in our lives. Extreme cold and heat are perhaps more dangerous to them than they are to ourselves, as we can escape into our heated or air-conditioned cocoons, but unless they are invited in, as part of our family, they will suffer greatly out in the elements. So think to yourselves, “how would I like it if the roles were reversed?” That is the thought behind today’s poem.

Though I suspect that all of my blogging friends are animal lovers, this would be purely hypothetical.

Please read and enjoy it when you get a chance as I know that it’s Saturday.

Have a wonderful day,

The Animal Kingdom

What if in the next life

our pets are the masters then?

And they get the chance to treat us,

as we have treated them.

Will you be welcomed with a smile

and shown a special place,

and know from the beginning

that in their hearts, you have a space?

Or maybe this will be your fate

on the day that you get there,

to have a chain around your neck

and your food be rot and spare!

Or left to wander on your own

in the heat and cold.

with no one who will care for you

no one who’ll pet and hold.

Will you be put inside a car

and left to thirst and swelter?

While in the cool, they sit themselves

and care not, for your shelter.

I know that this sounds crazy

but hey, you never know!

So don’t go taking chances,

 return the love, they show.

  1. So true. Life is given to us as a gift and we have a responsbility to take care of those put in our care, especially the animals who can’t speak for themselves. I am thankful for your words. Thank you for your wonderful writings on this blog. Us humans need to realize that love means going out of our way for those we say we love “without being asked.” That extends to the animals that are part of our family and all animals. So many animals are abused, lack medical care, starving, suffering and thrown away like garbage. I hope your words wake humans up. We don’t know what’s on the other side, and our karma may just be exactly what you wrote…..I hope it’s not a premonition. God help us then!

    • It is so sad to see animals mistreated or maltreated, they don’t ask much of us, do they..Food, shelter, and love..that’s about all..Some people shouldn’t be allowed to have pets..(or children for that matter) As they have no respectfor any life other than their own. Thank you for the kind words about my blog. Your comments are always welcomed. Jake.
