Back around Easter, as you may probably be aware, I started this poem and I had only the first three lines complete when I put it on the shelf for whatever reason and this morning I happened to notice it in my drafts, so I took a look at it and the rest of the words flowed out. So now three or four months later I will share it with you.

Easter Sunday
Oh, so many years ago
He died to free us from all sin
but have we learned His lesson taught?
I doubt it by the state we’re in!
He told us to love our neighbor
but certainly not, our neighbor’s wife
He told us not to kill or steal
and to lead a righteous life.
He told us to keep Holy
each and every Sabbath Day
but isn’t that the time of week
when our favorite teams will play?
He said that we should turn our cheek
whenever it be smite
and that we are all the Father’s children
be us yellow, red, black or white!
But His teachings seem to be, not instilled
in the most of us from birth,
for just look around you now
to see what’s done on earth.
We kill to take a piece of land
or anything else we crave
and our children are now allowed to be
pampered and misbehaved!
We steal from family and friend alike
we rob from strangers too
and our officials steal from all of us
Caesar takes more, than is his due!
Sex and lust are everywhere
at the movies and on TV,
mothers and fathers are now unwed
and babies’ souls set free.
Now I admit that I have sinned
and I’m guilty of some above
but, I pray that He’ll forgive me
for in Him I know there’s love.
I know for sure that when I die
I’ll face my “Judgement Day”
and that His mercy will be shown
at that is what and why I pray!

You have just written a concise poem that clearly shows why we all need the redeeming grace of our Lord and Savior. Thank you.
I think the Resurrection is more than the one event in time. When we accept the invitation of Jesus through the Holy Spirit a resurrection becomes available for each of us now walking in His light. It really is a matter of being born again.
We really seem to have missed the point of Jesus Christ. He wept for his people in Jerusalem. I think now he weeps for us. Your poem says it very well. At my point in life i’m convinced that perseverance is the most important virtue for a Christian. That was not my strong point for most of my life, but grace has changed that. So, I will pray for you too to accept the grace to persevere no matter how difficult life becomes. Please pray that continues for me also.
Perseverance is at the very core of human existence. Self-preservation, along with the law of natural selection provide us with the tools we need to continue on life’s journey. When we cease to care about our own life we cease to put a value on hope, prayer and God Himself, and we certainly lose all respect for the lives of others! Therefore it is impreritive that we never cease to persevere! Thank you for your insightful comment it got my juices flowing so early on this July morning. Have a great day Eileen. By the way Chief Dan George has a line in the movie “The Outlaw Josie Wales” that I am reminded of here “Endeavor to Persevere” appropriate wouldn’t you say?
Endeavor to Persevere is very appropriate. Unfortunately, I have been interested in a lot of different areas of endeavor and became a jack of a collection of trades and master of none. I have always kept my hand in at writing in different ways and though published off and on, I’ve never been paid. Starting a blog when I turned 75 has been a great help at persevering, though there are times I am remiss at posting because of family duties and activities. Glad to connect with you and appreciate your comment.
My pleasure Eileen, I didn’t begin writing anything at all until I was in my mid to late 50’s and wrote almost non-stop lyrics (see my “who am I, who are you”), poems, reflections, interjection, haiku’s and any blessed thing or thought that came to mind, until about 3 years ago when the creative juices and/or creative flow slowed to a trickle. I still have much material that has never been posted and I occasionally have to remind myself to write, or at least post, something. I have been known to lay the blame on a wandering Muse or anyone other than my own darn self!
A POET’S LAMENT
God bless the poet
for they have long passed their time
Who can’t find the words
Apropos to their rhyme
Who struggle now greatly
In search of the phrase
That tied the loose ends
