Two Shades Of Green

With all of the talk and/or legislation involving restrictions on coal, oil drilling, fracking and other types of mining, on oil and natural gas pipelines, while offering environmental protection for every conceivable plant, animal and insect, we have become heavily invested in “foreign” energy sources that are produced in the very same ways that we have banned here at home. But at the same time we are now relying more and more on nuclear power plants. So I offer this poem for your “consumption” and consideration.

     Have a happy ‘hump’ day,

Jake.

How green is your valley?

How green is your valley?

Two Shades Of Green

We must go green”

I hear them say.

Yes, it’s the thing

to do today.

Save the planet!

Save the trees!

Use less carbon

energies!”

Forsake the coal

and crude oil too,

to lessen the footprint

left by you!”

But, then I imagine

quite a different scene,

also shaded

in the color green.

In which the earth

does not fare well

and we would welcome

that coal-oil smell!

Then all of those slogans

we’d recant,

as the sky glows green

at the nuclear plant!
