Today being the day that we celebrate Patriot’s Day in Massachusetts, I thought this poem may be appropriate to the current state of affairs in Washington, DC.
Yes, it has a political overtone and relates to the reader, my opinion of what I think our “Forefathers” might say if they could express themselves today.
Please read and enjoy.
Happy Patriot’s Day,
A Walk Amongst The Ancients
As I walked amongst the ancients
I sensed the hallowed there,
and the names on stones from long ago
screamed out, in great despair.
“Where hast gone, that which we devoted to
why still, is it not here?”
“We gave our all for freedom’s sake
and all’s now lost, we fear!”
“For it is now the few, with voices raised
who demand the greater say.
‘Twas not that way envisioned
on Independence Day!”
“Nor was it framed, that those who share
should force their will upon the multitudes
if then, indeed, all’s lost and through!”
“For beyond the first, all further laws,
by government, hence enacted,
have altered then our purpose,
and liberties, thus retracted!”
“But, there’s one chance to righten,
and shift from what’s astray.
You must heed our words, and vote by God,
whence comes Election Day!”
