Black Friday! So sad, that we can’t even let the turkey digest before we head on out to the malls for what is advertised as the best “shopping” day of the “Holiday Season” and even that generic phrase is still said to be offensive to some. But, that is what we have allowed Christmas to become; A nondescript, materialistic, anti-religious part of the year.. No longer a joyous and festive spiritual experience. It has been now given over to the agnostic, the atheist and the corporate bottom line.. Well, all I can say to that is; “Good Tidings to you and all of your kin. Good Tidings on Christmas and all the year in.”
I wish for you all the happiest of Yuletide seasons!
Jake.
The Yuletide Season
So now begins
the Yuletide season
when we lose touch
with sense and reason.
And thus we now
will spend and spend
as to impress
both kin, and friend.
*
But bitter the pill
we must now swallow
that for one more year
in debt we’ll wallow.
Credit lines
will soon be strained
leaving “The Season’s”
spirit drained.
*
For gone now are
the simpler things
like caroler’s voices
as they sing.
Like chocolate hot
to chase the cold
and the gathering then
of young and old.
*
Of homemade ornaments
on the tree
and “Season’s Greetings”
to all you’d see.
Yes, that was then
a different day
when “Merry Christmas”
was the thing to say!
*
And though now it seems
that “Peace On Earth,”
inspired by
the Christ Child‘s birth,
offends the few,
that to whom I’ll say,
Anyway!
