A Serviceman’s Prayer

A new year has begun, but the old problems didn’t just go away at the stroke of midnight and the drop of the ball in Times Square. No, we still have wars going on and warriors away from home for at least the beginning of this new year. I know that all of you join me in praying that; all of the fighting in the world will end this year, as unlikely as that may be. Still, it is a noble prayer for a noble cause for noble people, and I thank you for remembering those who couldn’t party with their family and friends at the arrival of 2013 because they were ensuring us, that we could! God Bless them all and keep them safe, wherever they are serving.

Now, the following poem has a serious beginning and a bit of a humorous ending. But, said ending is intended to be extremely complimentary, as to the expertise, dedication, and marksmanship, of our aviators. For they are the best that the world has ever known, and that statement applies to all of the pilots, co-pilots, and air-support crews in all branches of the military.

I do hope that you will find this poem to be entertaining,

Jake.

A Serviceman’s Prayer

I offered a prayer

and set it afloat,

for every sailor

on ship or boat.

For every soldier

on the ground,

I sent another prayer,

Heaven bound.

But to the airmen

at the speed of sound.

I just pray when you see ‘em,

you won’t shoot ‘em down!
