A Letter To Lincoln

Election day is five days away, and if only…

Abraham Lincoln

Would you vote for him today, or the other guy?

                                        Dear Abe,

I’m sorry to hear of your demise,

for, I wish to God, that you were here,

to set the nation straight and wise,

and guide us in these trying years.

Oh yes, there’s still a war, that’s raging on,

and half the country’s split,

on staying, til the job is done,

and half, want just to quit.

And race, it is an issue still,

though somewhat, more subdued,

but the fact, that of their own free will,

people still are crude.

But, most of all, I’d like to say,

that here, and at this date, and hour,

if at your feet, again this lay,

what solutions, would you empower?

I fear that nation, of which you spoke,

the one, of government of and by,

for the people all, and common folk,

is about to say goodbye.

So, please take no offense, when I say to you,

that, the lawyers and politicians,

are responsible, for the failure true,

of and by and for, their own volition.

                Sorrowfully yours,

                Jack Downing
