The mist floats atop the water

in the early hours of dawn

as the birds awake the trees,

save for the gliding swan.

So calm upon the surface

yet beneath, a race be on.

Are we not, the human ones,

alike the swimming swan?

We show a face to all the world

yet, reveal the truth, to none.
