We are being told that the Mayan calendar, after who knows how many centuries, is about to expire on, I believe, December 21, 2012. Leaving many to think and profess an end of the world is forthcoming on that date. But I ask  one simple question, if they were so smart, then why didn’t they foresee, their demise and then do something about it?

 What lies in wait,

for us this year,

is there more hope,

than there is fear,

is there more laughter,

than there are tears,

is this really,

the last of years?

 Are the portends false,

or are they true,

is this the year,

the earth is through?

I fear this not,

for I ask of you,

where went the Mayans,

if they knew?

  1. The potential of Armageddon has been transmuted. Our future is always a potential. What the Mayans saw presumably was a potential.

As human beings have played the game of energy on Earth very well, humanity will not cease to exist in the year 2012. Instead the opposite is happening. Intuitively, you probably knew it too. 🙂

    • “The end is near repent”, ‘pack your bags the space ship is coming for the chosen ones’, ‘the millenium will cause all of our computers to crash’, etc. etc. all predictions, that have proven to be non-predictions as it turns out, but make for good press. I have a poem called “Doom and Gloom” that speaks to what you have said..I have posted it before, and tomorrow may be a good time to repost it.. Thank you for your comment, it is well appreciated. Come back soon.

  2. It remains one of history’s mysteries how such a prominent civilization evaporated instantly leaving no tangible evidence of why. Several reasonable theories are out there but they are a comparatively recent civilization and we should know more. Think end of world thing is hype to sell “Armageddon and eschatology” themed books. If I recall, Mayans don’t predict anything, the calendar just stops at this date. Their calendar copyright was probably due to expire anyway.

    • Too funny Carl, I can hear the conversation now, “Techumalacha enough with that sillycalendar stuffalready… Don’t you have anything better to do with the time? Go help your brother make arrows, I’ve got a feeling we’re going to need them!”

    right on….

    • Ha!? Am I missing something? Don’t forget I’m a computer weenie! Does that 🙄 mean something, that I am not aware [of]?(dangling participle) ha, ha.

  4. Good one! If only everyone was that sensible!
