“Another Christmas related poem” I hear you say, “he led us to believe that they would be sporadic. And a mix of the serious and humorous.” Well, my faithful readers, I have devised a way to do both..The Alternate Ending. I, the “Poet Extraordinaire,” will reveal that method to you now in;
The Bag of Old Saint Nick
The hobo has his bag
upon a stick.
The magician, he has
his bag of tricks.
and the airline has a bag
if you get sick.
But I prefer the bag
of “Old Saint Nick.”
~
Yes, the bag of “Old Saint Nick”
is full of toys,
for all the well-behavin’,
girls and boys.
And with them come the gifts,
of love and joy.
And a wish for peace on earth,
enjoy, enjoy.
~
Now the bag may carry pets,
that have four paws.
I’ve even seen a tool chest,
with twelve drawers.
And how that’s done defies,
all science laws.
Oh, there’s secrets in the bag,
of Santa Claus.
~
But, Santa doesn’t do it,
by himself,
he has helpers, each one,
a little elf.
And his reindeer were the first,
to practice stealth.*
But, in that bag he carries,
more than wealth.
~
Yes, in the bag he carries,
hopes and dreams.
For all of us believers,
it would seem.
So, when the bag is opened,
and the eyes of Santa gleam,
the gift he brings is innocence,
and a childhood, redeemed.

*An alternate ending:
…he has helpers, each one,
a little elf.
And his reindeer were the first,
to practice stealth,
Said Santa to the Air Force,
“share the wealth!”
Have a “wicked pissah” Wednesday, (as is known to be heard on occasion, in and around Boston.) Translation…Very good.
Jake.
Ps. I assume that those of you who follow poemsandponderings are on to me, and are aware of my habit of speaking with my forked-tongue, firmly in-cheek.
