The Gambler’s Weeds

The other day when I posted “Talk To The Hand” I remembered another poem concerning the Lottery, and gambling in general that I had written a few years ago, so naturally, I am compelled to share it with you now. Becoming forgetful, is not always a bad thing, if I post something that I have posted before, I can just say “I forgot.” I’m stealing that bit from comedian Steve Martin, who by the way, is an accomplished musician as well, (the banjo especially) and has his own band, “The Steep Canyon Rangers.” All of which has absolutely nothing to do with my post. I do hope you like it and are not tangled in the weeds of chance.

Have a tasteful, Tuesday,

Jake.

THE GAMBLER‘ WEEDS

 If you are at all,

           a bit like me,

      then you play the lottery.

         To solve all your problems,

          one, two, three.

              And you dig a hole,

            for the money tree.

               But, when the hole,

               it’s dug too deep.

                 And you keep digging,

                  in your sleep.

                 And you have nothing,

                    left to keep.

                 It’s not the willow,

                   that will weep.

                     Nothing good grows,

                       from passive seed.

                          Use your thoughts,

                           for what you need.

                             And luck will find you,

                             with more speed.

                                  Than tangled in,

                                the gambler’s weeds.

A money tree, haha! Maybe it needs money for compost…

Oh my goodness…that was great! I am not a gambler at all. Had it ingrained in me as a United Methodist that gambling was the worst evil above all which makes me laugh because there are definitely other things that are tolerated that can be worse. However, on this recent trip we did go to the casino. I have decided that I am not smart enough to gamble…..you have to think at the roulette wheel and that is not my idea of fun! 🙂

    • Have you never heard of “Dumb Luck,” or “Beginners Luck,” which are really one and the same? I was really “hooked” on scratch-off tickets, until the I finally got mad enoughat myself for playing the fool. Instant gratification, proved to be longterm desperation. I do still play the Big Games(multi-millions) for a dollar though, so I haven’t fully taken the cure. lol
