Perception

Perception

She walks the dog along the beach,

as the sun reflects the trees,

orange, red and yellow,

with still a touch of green,

off of the mirrored surface,

like the perfect movie scene.

Solitude surrounds them,

the birds, only with their songs,

invade the silent stillness,

of her thoughts, of what went wrong.

*

 Had familiarity,

indeed, brought on contempt?

Oh no, not he, not she, not them,

weren’t they to be exempt?

Were they not the kindred spirits,

alike in all respect,

twin souls upon the parallel,

from birth, their paths direct?

Impossible” she thought, “not us,”

yet, that thought would not reject.

*

“If only he had come along,

with us, the dog and I,

together on this sterling day,

and beside the water walk,

perhaps, perchance, the autumn air,

would bring a cleansing talk.”

But no, he had not interest,

preoccupied with some thought,

and a barely heard goodbye,

was all that she had got.
