Jewels Or Thorns

Back into the dust bin I went for this Sunday morning. I will not preach today. The message here, is loud and clear.(Sorry sometimes, everything rhymes)(oops did it again) Where was I? Oh yeah, I will not preach today, this post is just another way for us to step back and take a look at life for what it is, a series of options and choices. For (almost) all things, there are options, therefore, for all of those things, there are decisions to be made,(or sadly, they will be made for us) and as the “Most Interesting Man in the World” (Dos Equis Beer ad) would say “Choose Wisely, My Friend.”

Please, enjoy this Sunday, and then ask God for another. Go In Peace.

Jake.

Jewels Or Thorns

Between sinners and saints,

and winners and ain’ts,

sometimes there’s a very,

 fine line.

*

But, when it’s all boiled down,

jewels or thorns, in your crown,

the options, they’re yours,

and they’re mine.

*

Now, life seldom seems fair,

when it looks like your share,

is much smaller, than the fellow,

next door.

*

Eden’s apple is sweet,

but, when it falls at your feet,

the rot, it begins,

at the core.

*

So, if you can choose,

to win or to lose,

consider the stakes,

of the game.

*

Will the rewards, that you reap,

help you to sleep,

or, to lie awake,

with the shame?

Ps. Next week in honor of Veteran’s Day 11/11/11,(USA) I will publish poems related to those who have served their country, many of whom paid the ultimate price for our freedoms. Some of them returned, some did not, some served in wartime, some in peacetime, and some died without us knowing who they were, hopefully, (through DNA testing) that will never happen again. In their honor… “The Unknown Patriot” will be Friday’s post.

To all of my international friends, please bear with me this week. As I am a U.S. Navy veteran(1965-1972) this means a lot to me, many good people have served their country proudly, all around the world young men and women, daily perform necessary,(though sometimes, unpopular) tasks, to keep this nation and other nations free from tyranny and anarchy. God Bless them all.

J.

Very true, Jack. Also, given the chance, we would never swap our troubles for anyone else’s!

    • “The grass is always greener, in the other fellows yard,” (that was a song from a children’s show on TV when I was a kid, Big Brother Bob Emery)it seems. I still know all the words, believe it? You had better, ’cause here they are: “The grass is always greener, in the other fellow’s yard, that little row, that we have to hoe, oh, boy that’s hard. But, if we all could wear, green glasses now, it wouldn’t be so hard, to see how green the grass is, in our own back yard.”

Looking forward to your military tributes. My hubby is a Navy man—1982-1987 active duty and reserves for 7 years so I have a soft spot for the Navy. My daddy was also a Navy man–tho not for very long. You posted such a great serious post today and what did I post??? A frivolous tribute to songs from my childhood……:-)
