The Trail of Life

I don’t know where the inspiration for this one came, but it just felt to me that I was writing a description of life, as seen through the eyes of a story-teller, from a time before we came to his land. We are the Timberwolves!

The Trail of Life

Along the trail of life,

the wolf awaits.

As do the hawk,

and bear.

With the elk and deer,

and surely, with the fates,

that trail is for us all,

to share.

The white wolf howls,

to warn us.

The grey, no longer cares.

While the Timberwolf,

smiles behind us.

For he, our lives,

won’t spare!

  1. Reference to the “hawk” was widespread in 1930’s in reference to when an individual or family would face their turn to be dispossessed of all due to depression. I don’t think people under 30 would understand wolf or hawk as used in the poem.

    • We can only hope, that there are still teachers out there who haven’t forgotten that; ‘if we don’t remember history, we are doomed to repeat it.’Santyana, I believe, correct me if I’m wrong.

Thanks for the comments..they keep me thinking. Jake
