My niece Meghan from California, was back here (in Massachusetts) for a brief visit with her family recently and as we all  finished a fine meal at “The Villa Restaurant” in Wayland Mass. 01778 and our varied tastes and appetites had been satisfied to the fullest,(our dining menu that evening consisted of salads, Cobb and House Garden, clam chowder, roasted chicken and corn chowder, lobster rolls, veal parmigiana, chicken parmigiana, fried scallops and two other entrée’s that I cannot remember at this time) as the food was deliciously prepared and graciously served by Beth our server for the evening, Meghan had asked if I still wrote poems. And as I do, still write poems, I said that I did, and I offered to write one for her. As it turns out I ended up writing two poems, for the first was deemed to be a bit too ”deep” for an eleven year old girl. Though it had music* as the subject, which was her choosing it was decided that something more suiting to her age group might be in order.Â
So today, you are getting a rare double-header. Number one is the original poem and number two is the more whimsically written offering.
Please, consider Thursday as a gateway to the weekend,
Jake.

Meghan’s Wish
 Music ties the ears
to the heart,
and it binds us
heart to soul.
It’s like a bridge
and carries us,
over rocky shores
and shoals.
Or perhaps, more like
a vessel,
that may sail
to distant goals.
But yet, it’s echo stays,
within us.
And we must not,
lose hold.

………………………………………………………………….
The Girl Who Twirled Off The World
She whirled
and she twirled
oh, the young girl,
she swirled.
Spinning so fast,
her feet, left this world.
So high in the sky
up and up, she did fly
and she did it so easy,
without even a try,
and then off in to space
she was hurled.
Around the sun
she spun and she spun
and she circled the planet
before she was done,
and she woke up in bed,
warm and curled.
Then rubbing her eyes
in a bit of surprise,
shoes, just her size
from the floor, up and rised,
as then out of sight,
they did twirl.

I will and I guess I should be happy that they don;t have those here in the desert… seriously … I would be in trouble and having to move there myself. But for lobster rolls…it might be worth it.. maybe…
We would welcome a person of your calibre here..There aren’t enough now. Hmm, let’s see, toasted hot dog bun, with large chunks of fresh Maine lobster, tossed lightly in mayo with a bit of lettuce if you like for added taste..
I’m Meghan’s mom…she LOVED the whimiscal poem very much! Delighted in fact. And, the lobstah roll was to die for! Thanks Uncle Jack! xoPearly
Thanks hon, big smile here too, give my love to all… Jake.

Love both of them but the whimsical one is so fun!!!! Thanks for sharing a bit of Meghan with us!!!!
Ohh, as always, you are too kind.. But thanks I appreciate it.. Just between us Meghan was diagnosed with Stargaarts (sp?) Disease a year or so ago, it is a progressive macular degeneration disease and she will most likely be at least legally blind eventually. At the present time they have not found a cure, but at Harvard University, my brother was told that they truly believe that they will within ten years. Of course we are all hoping that it comes much sooner..She really is a trooper.
