Another poem on one of my most popular subjects.. Greed! For some reason, I can’t fathom the very concept. Why aren’t some people ever satisfied with what they have in life? Is an over-inflated ego, why they have the burning desire for more, more, more? More money, more “toys” , more rooms in their mansions, more property,,, more tax loopholes so they can keep it all!!!
But, when the walls come a’ tumblin’ down, and their businesses fail and the fortunes are gone or threatened, for whatever reason, the economy, poor management, or even, the most ironic of all..The Ponzi Scheme… ”The Avenger of Avarice“!!! … Oh, don’t the tears fall then, and the ’whine’ of a different vintage be served…
Please enjoy.
Have a Tuesday, worthy of a testimonial,
Jake.
When Monuments Crumble
They still build the towers,
overlooking their realms.
“Captains of Industry”
stand at the helm.
And still yet, the sirens,
sing to their pride,
“sail closer, sail closer,
there’s nothing in hide.”
Ego and avarice,
urging them on,
incessant, the call,
and like the moth, they are drawn.
Until into the flame,
they fly without care,
when ego and avarice,
seek more than their share.
Yet, when onto the shoals,
their vessels they’ve sailed,
and when their monuments crumble,
“Oh poor me,” then they wail!

Greed….brings out the true colors and selfishness, then serves as quite the “rude awakening” when it is them in need on the flip side of things.
Oh so true.. But the real question, at least in my mind, is how is it developed, where is the root? Deprivation at a young age? Or is the opposite at the core? One who is spoiled and lavished with items rather than real love, so they spend the rest of their lives seeking out the only love they know, material love. I would suppose that most of us have some degree of selfishness within us, though less-so, in my opinion, in the female than in the male of our species. Perhaps the ingrained mothering instinct provides women with a more giving nature..
Well I’m sorry for the diatribe, but thanks for the visits, the ‘likes,’ and the comments, all are appreciated.
Jake.
I agree with you; and often times i frel it comes out of fear. Fear of being alone, fear of weakness- fear of pain and past complications. There are any number of explanations we could ponder about but the question is do those people change? Does that greed evolve into a level as you mentioned, that we all hold in one form or another? Hunger for life, to live, learn and most importantly, love?
No need to apologize, i am intriuged with different perspectives and communicating thoughts. It helps to understand what at times can seem so complicated.

Very good.
Thank you again, for your brief, but very flattering, comment.
