Okay, we’ve gone awhile without some political rant reference from poemsandponderings, so brace yourselves, here he goes again.
Let the Flame of Freedom Burn
The future of this nation,
is in debate today,
and I’m not feeling comfort,
in what I have to say.
Let us not forget the past,
when tomorrow seemed so bright,
and we were all Americans,
not described as left, or right.
United all together,
in one grand pursuit,
freedom from intrusion,
with liberty at its root.
So, in the halls of Congress,
both the Senate, and the House,
let the flame of freedom burn.
Do not that fire douse!

I doubt we were ever that united. Slavery enraged the north and was passionately defended by the south the moment they compromised to ratify the Constitution. Hamilton and Jefferson had passionate followers and political parties began straight off. Washington decried them as the incarnation of evil in government.
I believe Jefferson had some pretty scathing remarks about Republicans as well.. But, as for being united, crisis binds and we are truly in need of an enema..Flush the Congress, clean the bowl.
woot…love a good political rant and i went political this week too. i am fairly disgusted with where we are going and two/three sides firmly ensconched while the people suffer. i dont know if we have ever been there but i think we need to get back to those ideals. have you seen the letter starbucks sent the govt? and the conversation with america thing they are doing? pretty cool i think in denying politicians the money to run if they are unwilling to work together at least…
I get your point….. There has always been division, like the others say, that’s true. And there always will be, But your poem certainly reflects the way we hope it could be in the face of such humane indifference or depravity., as in Carl’s example of slavery…… True patriotism is poetry in motion…….. i think…….. I’m sure Francis Scot Key felt that way as well…….
